BGC Prince County, originally established in 1963 as the Boys and Girls Club of Summerside, has spent over 60 years providing safe spaces, developmental opportunities, and wraparound support to children, youth, and families across western Prince Edward Island.

In 2015, the organization opened the Youth Engagement Centre in Summerside—a dedicated space for teens and young adults offering mentorship, structured programming, employment readiness, and mental wellness supports.

In 2021, the Club rebranded as BGC Summerside, aligning with a national movement to reflect a more inclusive and modern vision of service. The following year, in 2022, BGC Summerside formally merged with BGC Wellington and Area and adopted the new name BGC Prince County, marking a significant step in expanding our regional impact.

Also in 2022, BGC Prince County launched LifeHouse Emergency Shelter—the first and only women’s shelter in Summerside—providing 24/7 support to women, trans, and non-binary individuals and their children facing housing insecurity.

In 2024, the LifeHouse model expanded with the opening of a 10-unit transitional housing complex, offering supportive, semi-independent living with built-in case management and life-skills programming.

In 2025, BGC Prince County achieved two more major milestones:

The completion and opening of a 24-unit permanent affordable housing complex, creating long-term housing stability for families transitioning out of crisis.

The launch of BGC Prince County – Kensington, a new facility that includes a licensed Early Childhood Education Centre (Club Junior) and a School-Age Club, directly addressing childcare and after-school care needs in the rural community.

Today, BGC Prince County operates five core sites:

BGC Summerside

BGC Wellington

BGC Kensington

Youth Engagement Centre (YEC)

LifeHouse (emergency, transitional, and affordable housing)

In 2024, the organization supported over 1,500 children and youth through more than 25 programs, delivered by 35 full-time and 60 seasonal staff. BGC Prince County remains committed to equity, access, and inclusion—offering programming across early learning, housing support, youth mental health, employment skills, and family outreach.
