Mission

LifeHouse delivers emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent affordable housing, and full wraparound supports for women, women with children, and gender-diverse individuals who are unhoused or experiencing housing instability. Through the LifeHouse Support Model, we provide safety, stability, and coordinated supports that help people move toward long-term housing and independence.

Vision

A province where people have the housing, child care, and support they need to build healthy, confident, and independent lives.

How it started

Susan and Margie are the founding members of LifeHouse—an idea that came to fruition following a powerful encounter with an unhoused woman in Summerside. Meeting such a vulnerable individual left a lasting impression and became the catalyst for action, fueling their commitment to address the urgent need for a women’s shelter and transitional housing in the community. From that moment, LifeHouse was born.

Susan and Margie established LifeHouse as the name for the future shelter, inspired by the symbolism of a lighthouse. A lighthouse represents safety and human presence in times of uncertainty, offering guidance, protection, and hope. It stands as a beacon of illumination, watchfulness, and steadfast endurance—values that reflect the mission of LifeHouse and its commitment to supporting women in their time of need.
